FAQs

Is this an Industry recognised course?

Our 4-day FIFO Medical Essentials course brings together Three Nationally accredited courses (CPR/BLS, ALS2 and D&A Testing), with 2 days of widely required skills, scenarios & competencies to work in the Rural, Remote and Mining sectors.  See our course flyer here for details.

I only need my ALS2, Do I need to do the whole FIFO course?

The course allows you to simply register and pay for the qualification or skills you need.  There is no need to do the full 4 days  – simply choose your options and register pay accordingly See our course flyer here for details.

Is your FIFO course equivalent to REC?

Our course share’s many elements of REC, however our course provides additional elements not found in REC. We provide accredited certification in ALS2, CPR (HLTAID009), and D&A Testing (HLTPAT005).  We also include competency & skills training in Triage, Wound closure, IV & IO insertion, patient preparation for transfer, Stop Bleed, Management of critical ECG rhythms and more. We welcome you to download the course flyer and check with your employer to see if this course will meet their needs.

They are similar courses that focus on preparation for practice in a remote or isolated context or act as a refresher. The major difference is then FIFO course is heavily practically focused with minimal lectures and promotes questions during skill stations at a comfortable pace. The skill stations have built the necessary time into them to allow for people to have as many of their queries as possible answered during the station as well as allow maximum time for practice. The FIFO course does not address obstetric emergencies and recommends the MEC course as a preferred option if working in the isolated context.

If you do our ALS2 course, you will cover everything from the from the ARC ALS2 course. The main difference is that in the ARC ALS2 course there is more focus on Arterial Blood Gases, whereas we focus more on meeting the needs of rural and prehospital practitioners more effectively through our realistic evidence based practical and team based teaching and high fidelity scenarios
  • Our facilitators are high quality current senior clinicians working in the medical, emergency nursing or paramedicine fields to an advanced level.
  • Courses are flexible, dynamic, and are adapted and refined to meet your individual needs, based on your presenting clientele, working environment and available resources.
  • Our ALS2 course does not include neonatal, obstetric or paediatric emergencies – stay tuned for the addition of our new ALS Paediatric (ALSP) course in 2025
